8/25/08 - Dalton Highway

After a cold night at Dan’s Creek the van was a bit hesitant to start which caused some consternation and anxiety.  A little tap on the gas proved sufficient and our southbound journey was under way.  The profound impression the Arctic Circle made on us became apparent as we found ourselves to be quiet, introspective and somewhat sad to be departing this amazing region.  The scenery was simply majestic heading south on the Dalton Highway, with snow on the northern facing slopes and the fall colors even more pronounced and developed than on the drive north.

We chose to camp by the side of the road again, this time on the southeast side of Jim River I.  Happy to be building a fire and cooking again, we enjoyed a relaxing evening in the warmer weather although noting the return of mosquito presence.
