About Us
Rebekah Antrosio and Jessica Christianson are high school friends who recently reacquainted at a schoolmate's wedding. A common love of travel and adventure inspired these ladies to plan a van-dwelling open-ended road trip along the Pan American highway.
From Fairbanks we headed south to Anchorage, still craving civilization. The drive between the two cities is extremely scenic, passing through Denali National and State Parks. The road conditions here are ideal and the traffic is much more significant than we have encountered since leaving the lower 48.
We spent the three nights in Anchorage in the Captain Cook Hotel on Fifth and K Streets – the nicest hotel in Alaska with extremely accommodating staff, several shopping and dining options and a plethora of amenities. The location is in the downtown section of Anchorage with countless restaurants and tourism options within short walking distance. We found the downtown area to be quite hip, young and diverse while maximizing the natural and ecological characteristics of the region. The downtown sits of the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlet and contains many parks and trails which provide vistas of the mudflats and alluvial plains. Some of our favorite downtown establishments included Darwin’s Theory, Humpy’s, and Mad Myrna’s.
Our stay in town coincided with both the conclusion of the DNC as well the republican vice presidential announcement of the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin. A local radio program broadcast public reaction to the announcement. Reactions range from, “tough chick”, to “Alaska: Coldest State, Hottest Governor.”
