Las Glorias

12/17/08 – 12/18/2008

Thanks to  some detailed and reasonably correct directions provided by our handy Mexican Camping book, we made our way to the beautiful beach at Las Glorias. The trip there took us off Mex 15 through hectares of agricultural lands. Fields of corn, soybeans and small vegetables were most common and the grazing procedures for horses and burros were most interesting. Livestock is simply anchored to a fencepost or other pole along a roadside or any other area with lush forage and retrieved later in the day. A most efficient use of space.

It was somewhat to surprising to arrive at the wide sandy beaches of Las Glorias, as they seem to appear out of rural farmland. Their presence hinted at only slightly by the sporadic palm trees. Las Glorias is a small fishing community with beautiful views yet few people in evidence to enjoy them. There are several small restaurants situated on and along the beach front and the roads are primarily sand and gravel. Mr. Moro is hailed as a hotel and RV park but too seemed void of many guests. Animals, however, abound and include at least a dozen resident dogs, some chickens, roosters and a pig.   However, its location is perfect, situated immediately adjacent to the beach, complete with an immaculate swimming pool and bathroom facilities with at least warm water. We were able to park the van right on the edge of the dunes.

English is spoken primarily by the guests but the employees are more than able and accommodating to explain the check in procedures, bathroom locations and other necessities. Upon arrival we inquired as to the status of the onsite restaurant (abierto/cerrado). Although it seemed impossible, the restaurant was open, with the complete menu available which included everything from alata de tortuga to marlin to chicken and a full bar. We had the most amazing tortilla soup accompanied by some fish tacos and other accoutrements – entirely too much food but we are sure we will learn to order appropriately before too long.

The evening concluded with a spectacular sunset and in the morning we were greeted by numerous small fishing and large shrimp boats.  Although quite rustic and slightly off the beaten path, the trip to Las Glorias is definitely worth it. Our only complaint could possibly be the mosquitoes.
