There are many bed and breakfast places, guest houses and apartments within the
“Centro” neighborhood.  We found that a walking tour is the most helpful for finding a place that suits you best.  If beachfront is not a necessity, perhaps start at Machado Square and work outward in concentric circles.  There are two hills on either side of the plazas and Olas Altas beach – the properties on these hills have excellent views and seem lovely if you don’t mind a steep walk into town or to the beach.  The north hill (we call it cell phone hill due to all the cell towers on the back side) seems to be the fancier and more gringo populated of the two.

We rented a one-bedroom apartment from the Mazatlan Property Group on Penuelas street near the Plaza Leones (Hidalgo Square).  The neighborhood is very local and residential, yet only a few blocks from the beach, market and all three plazas.

Penuelas Street – We live in the house behind the ficus tree.

Penuelas – Again, behind the ficus.

Our corner store – The “Hidalgo

Plaza Leones (Hidalgo Square) – The entrance to the library

Plaza Leones – Where we get the internet and make phone calls
