Las Pozas - Xilitla

3/2/09

With the love of Queretaro firmly in our hearts, we decided to venture even further north into San Luis Potosi.  Inspired by a National Geographic article (thoughtfully given to us by Jessica’s dad), we headed toward “Shangri-La”, otherwise known as Las Pozas in the town of Xilitla.  Las Pozas is a fantasy garden built by Edward James between 1945 and 1984.  There are more than 30 concrete Surrealist sculptures interlaced with pools and plants in a jungle of 80 acres.  We enjoyed wandering in this maze of form and function immensely but found the town of Xilitla nearly impossible to drive through.  Take the northern entrance beyond the town if at all possible!
