Huatulco

Having taken Renee and Kim to the airport in Huatulco, we decided to check out the town itself. Formally known as Santa Cruz Huatulco, this small town lies outside of the Bahias de Huatulco, nine bays that have been developed by FONATUR for tourism purposes. The lay of the land and style of development has created quiet resort-style properties situated on or near the beach. Most of the resorts are high-end luxury hotels, complete with all amenities available on the property, which is good since there is not much available in terms of shopping, dining and nightlife outside or near the hotels. While Huatulco seems like a nice spot for a secluded quiet vacation spent primarily in one resort, it would be disappointing if you wanted to experience Mexican culture or have a party-style vacation. However, we did notice a wide variety of colorful, interesting birds in the area, so if birdwatching and relaxing in the sun are priorities, Huatulco might be a perfect spot for you.
