La Palma

Heading north into the mountains, we stopped in the charming town of La Palma. This highland town is famous for its distinct handicrafts which are one of the signature souvenirs from El Salvador. In 1972, Salvadoran artist Fernando Llort moved nearby to La Palma and taught local families how to paint and produce these handicrafts. The town is decorated with renditions of this artwork and is filled with shops and merchants plying their wares.

In addition to purchasing some artwork, we stopped at the Casa de la Cultura on the corner opposite the square. This tourist office is a great source of information and maps on La Palma and the surrounding area.
