Cerro Verde - Izalco - Santa Ana

8/4/09
Hoping to climb one either the Izalco or Santa Ana volcano, Jess and I headed up to Cerro Verde park.  When we arrived at the park we found that both hikes required a guide and an armed guard and only departed once a day at 11am, five minutes before our arrival.  While we settled for a short loop trail (again with a required guide), we found ourselves pining for the beginning of our trip in the parks in North America where we camped and hiked at our own pace.  Nevertheless we enjoyed the views, vegetation and interesting (but abandoned) hotel of Cerro Verde.
