Playa Potrero – Playa Flamingo

9/25/09 – 9/26/09
Heading out onto the Nicoya Peninsula, we attempted to camp at Playa Potrero. Alas our destination, Myra’s Camping and Cabins was (almost?) defunct due to condos going up all around it. They have taking their sign down, and along with a heavy thundershower, we were deterred from a potential mudpit experience. However, in better weather, the businesses and beach area in Potrero would be quite appealing due to the laid-back atmosphere, value and walking potential between them. The road conditions leave a lot to be desired, but also keep the traffic to a minimum, both on the road and the hardpack gray sand beach.

Deciding we deserved a little luxury after camping in the parks for a few days, we chose the Flamingo Beach Resort, whose large pool, white sand beach, hot baths, electricity, internet connection and other creature comforts were just the amenities we needed to freshen up. After a lovely sunset, we ate dinner down the street at Marie’s, where the tasty large portions filled us to the gills. An early morning spent in the sun and pool was a fabulous welcome to the Costa Rican Pacific.
