Playa Samara
9/26/09 – 9/28/09
As the clouds began to gather for the daily shower, we hit the road going further south on the Nicoya Peninsula. While the road to Samara is paved, the winding hilly road is full of one-way bridges that are a bit difficult to negotiate in heavy rain and traffic. Arriving once again in the rain, we opted to skip the camping options at Los Cocos and Aloha. Instead we settled in at Locanda Cabins and Café. This family run establishment provides several different styles of rooms at affordable prices along with a nice café/bar set in among the palms on the beach. It is a great place to stay, but also a fun place to spend a few hours drinking beers on the beach.
With lots of shells, crabs and shallow tidepools, the beach at Samara is fun to comb, while the gentle waves provide a safe swimming experience. The beach is sparsely attended with locals and tourists sunbathing, riding bikes and horses. There are many restaurant and bar options in Samara, but we found ourselves exclusively dining at the delectable La Gondola/Il Vino on the main street into town. This Italian-run establishment is popular with the locals due to their fantastic pastas, imported meats and cheeses. Que delicioso!!
