White Sands National Monument

In the midst of the Tularosa Basin in New Mexico lies the world's largest gypsum dune field, much of which is protected as White Sands National Monument.  This awesome sight attracts many visitors who picnic and sled down this desert "beach".  You can also camp in the backcountry of White Sands, but it seems like an awfully sandy, windy affair to me, so we chose to simply see it during the day.
